Eli Roth's Sgt. Donny Donowitz, nicknamed Bärenjude because he notoriously hits German soldiers in the head with a baseball bat, is a fan-favorite character from Quentin Tarantinosixth movie, Inglorious Basterds. But while Roth's performance in Tarantino's rabid fan base lives in disgrace, the director recently announced that he has penned the role of Bear Jew for Adam Sandler. I understand if you need a moment to let this sink in. I'll wait.

Are you good? OK, let's continue then. Speaking of Bill Mahers club coincidence podcast, Tarantino told Maher and fellow interviewee Judd Apatow that he wanted Sandler to play the Bear Jew in his brutal Nazi-hunting-war film. Unfortunately (in more ways than one) Sandler has already signed on to play George Simmons in Apatow's 2009 comedy funny people.

"[Judd and I ] met through Adam Sandler when I was doing Little Nicky.” said Tarantino, referring to his cameo appearance in Sandler's funny-as-hell comedy. What? I like Little Nicki. Deal with it. "I wanted to hang out with this crew for a while" Added Tarantino. “We saw a lot of different things together. But also 'Freaks and Geeks' had just gone off the air or was on its way to going off the air and I missed it, but the whole 'Happy Madison' crowd was crazy about it."

"I feel bad because when I was doing 'Funny People' with Sandler, I didn't realize that that's exactly when you were trying to use him on 'Inglorious Basterds.'" interjected Apatow.

"Obviously he should have made yours about the whole thing." replied Tarantino. "I mean, you start with that damn videotape of you guys as kids. But yes, Bear Jude wanted to... I wrote Bear Jude for Adam Sandler. When I was doing 'Little Nicky' he said to me, 'Oh boy, can I fucking beat Nazis with a bat? Damn script! Damn great! I can't wait damn it! I can't wait damn it!” He was like telling any Jewish guy, 'I'm gonna fucking play that guy who beats Nazis with a fucking bat.'

Unfortunately Sandler's funny people Rolle conflicted with Tarantino's schedule for Inglorious Basterdsmaking him unavailable to star in Tarantino's hard-hitting ensemble film.

"Here's the problem. [Judd] wrapped up all the good Jews [for ‘Funny People’]" said Tarantino. "That was the problem. Seth Rogen and all the good Jews made Funny People. I kill Hitler with baseball bats and there are no good Jews! David Krumholtz, nobody! All the good Jews were all wrapped up! I do the Jewish male fantasy!”

Publish the Sandler Cut, damn it! Ultimately, the role of Bear Jew went to Tarantino's friend Eli Roth, who did a great job with the role. Do you think Sandler would have been an excellent choice to play Bear Jew? Inglorious Basterds? Please let us know in the comments.
