One of the most popular skits to come from the sketch comedy series created by Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele Key & Peele was the substitute teacher sketch. Key played Mr. Garvey, a tense inner-city teacher who has trouble pronouncing the names of his middle-class white students, such as Aaron as AA Ron or Jacqueline as Jay-kwellin. Well, Key has reprized his role as the legendary substitute teacher in a new version commercially for the Paramount+ streaming service.

At the top of Paramount Mountain, Mr. Garvey conducts appeal for a cast of animated and human characters including Dora the Explorer, Bumblebee, Murf and more. The end of the commercial also includes a callback to the first-ever substitute teacher sketch, thanks to an appearance by Los Angeles Rams player Aaron Donald.

When speaking to Weekly entertainment For an oral history of the sketch, Keegan-Michael Key said the concept immediately piqued the interest of everyone in the writers' room. "During the pitch meeting when the premise was announced the whole writers room was - it was like sharks in a frenzy after a dude was thrown in the water,' Key said. "Everyone had an example of a name that they thought might work.The skit proved so popular that Paramount Pictures even started a substitute teacher film, but it's been some time since we last heard about it.

Keegan-Michael Key recently reunited with Jordan Peele Wendel & Wild, a stop-motion animated film from The Nightmare Before Christmas director Henry Selick. The film follows two scheming demon brothers (voiced by Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key) who enlist the help of 13-year-old Kat Elliot (Lyric Ross) to summon her to the land of the living.
