Frank Grillo on turning down Crossbones cameo in Avengers movie
Frank Grillo made his debut as Brock Rumlow/Crossbones in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The actor said he had "signed a contract for seven paintings' with Marvel Studios, but Crossbones was killed with his next appearance in Captain America: Civil War. Of course, this left Grillo a little disappointed that his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was so short, which is why he initially turned down a cameo Avengers: Endgame.
When speaking to Empire Magazinesaid Frank Grillo "There should be a lot more from Crossbones. I was the only character I think should be in more of them and those other idiot characters are still there. I was an asshole, a little stubborn."Luckily, Grillo's son brought him to his senses. "He said, "This is going to be the greatest movie in the world," and he was right.' Grillo said. "And I had a good time. They were celebrating the tenth anniversary, Stan Lee was there, and I stood up and said, 'What an asshole I am!'Frank Grillo's guest appearance Avengers: Endgame was brief, but it was great to see the character again, not to mention the fun callback The Winter Soldier when Captain America (Chris Evans) got Rumlow to hand over Loki's scepter.
Frank Grillo has previously spoken of his disappointment with how Crossbones has been handled in the MCU. He said Comicbook.com in 2021 that "Crossbones' trajectory took a turn and he was phased out very quickly, right? And I was a little mad about that.Grillo continued: "And it was like, 'Oh, you're going to be part of the Marvel Universe, right?' And it didn't happen. And so they called me and said, 'Look, we need you for Avengers for a week' and I said, 'What for?' And they say, "Well, we can't..." I say, "No, I won't." So I hung up. I get a call back. I say, 'I'm not coming. Leave me alone' And how... who am I? Who am I right?" In addition to Avengers: Endgame Cameo, Frank Grillo also returned to voice Brock Rumlow/Crossbones in several episodes of Marvel's What happened if…? Series for Disney+. The actor has many projects in the works including a return to The purge Franchise.
