Brendan Fraser, Ke Huy Quan and RRR win big at the Critics' Choice Awards

While the Oscar nominations have yet to be announced, the potential front-runners are becoming increasingly apparent following last night's Golden Globe wins and Critics' Choice Awards. While Austin Butler is widely considered the favorite to win elvis Brendan Fraser accepted the Best Actor trophy last night after his Globe win The whale, meaning the price race between the two is neck-and-neck. The same goes for Best Actress, with Michelle Yeoh winning the Globes but Cate Blanchett winning department store as the critics' choice. One award that seems far from certain is Ke Huy Quan for Best Supporting Actor Everything everywhere at once, winning both the Globes and Critic's Choice Awards. The Oscar seems within reach for the comeback kid, which is heartwarming for those of us who grew up with him Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and The Goonies.

Another interesting race for best foreign film is on the horizon. The globes awarded Argentina, 1985but the Critics' Choice award went to the Indian epic RRR, which is riding a new wave of popularity. The film was also nominated for Best Picture at the Critics' Choice Awards and a grassroots campaign is underway in Hollywood to earn it a legitimate Nest Picture nomination Jason Blum recently threw his weight behind the film (which we loved most before - check out this review).

It should be noted that I am a voting member of the CCAs and I must say I was proud to see Ke Huy Quan claim another win. However, my foreign fil vote went to the great All Quiet on the Western Front (although I liked RRR so much). Here is a full list of CCA winners:
