Avatar's Kate Winslet on breaking Tom Cruise's breath-hold record
During the production of Avatar: The Way of Water, the actors had a lot of underwater training, including learning how to hold their breath for minutes. Kate Winslet emerged as the champion of the cast, holding her breath for a whopping seven minutes and fourteen seconds. When speaking to Rotten TomatoesKate Winslet shared what was on her mind the day she broke her own breath-hold record on set Avatar: The Way of Water.
"Maybe two days ago I had taken a breather that lasted 6 minutes 13 and I was incredibly proud of myself on that breather,' Winslet said. "I was really determined that day, trying to get my food right, trying to get my temper right because you need to calm your old nervous system down and actually how you live you start living in certain ways of which You know that you are going to maximize your physical abilities, your lung capacity, to be able to do this."While Winslet was holding her breath, she had no idea how long she had been under pressure. When she came out, she immediately asked how long it had been. "When [my husband] told me it was 7:14, i just screamed,' Winslet said. "I just couldn't believe it. And I think someone's radioing Jim [Cameron] and let him know that I just broke my own record. So I was very proud of myself."
Kate Winslet holding her breath avatar also broke Tom Cruise's record of six minutes, which he set during production Mission: Impossible: Rogue Nation. THR When asked how she felt about it, Winslet replied with a grin: "Amazing, I'm definitely better."
